Ashley Lopez WEST ALLIS
Emerging Clinician UW Milwaukee
Ashley Lopez is a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She believes everyone deserves a space where they can show up authentically, feel genuinely heard, and be met with compassion rather than judgment. Ashley is passionate about creating a collaborative and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe, respected, and empowered to pursue meaningful change.
Her counseling approach is grounded in empathy, authenticity, curiosity, and cultural humility. She primarily draws from person-centered and trauma-informed frameworks while incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connections among their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Ashley believes clients are the experts on their own lives and uses a culturally responsive, strengths-based approach that honors each person’s unique experiences, identities, strengths, values, and goals.
Ashley is committed to providing affirming care for individuals of all identities, backgrounds, and relationship structures. Her practice is LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity affirming, kink-aware, polyamory and consensual non-monogamy affirming, sex-positive, and sex-work affirming. She strives to meet each client with openness, respect, and curiosity rather than assumptions. Ashley believes therapy should be a space where clients do not need to defend their identities, relationships, or lived experiences. Instead, she works to reduce shame, challenge stigma, and honor the many ways people experience identity, connection, intimacy, and self-expression.
