Joshua Asby
Emerging Clinician UW Milwaukee
Josh is currently a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He has experience working as an intern at a nonprofit mental health center, where he developed foundational counseling skills and gained experience supporting individuals with a variety of mental health concerns.
Josh’s therapeutic approach is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). He is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences and working toward meaningful change.
Josh believes the counseling process begins with establishing a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust and safety. From there, he works alongside clients to identify their values and pursue their goals using evidence-based practices. He believes that hope is an important part of the healing process and that individuals can live fulfilling, value-driven lives despite experiencing mental health challenges. Josh views counseling as a personalized journey, recognizing that effective treatment looks different for each individual and should be tailored to their unique needs and strengths.
