Michaela L. Medrano, ABA Certified, ICGC-I
Licensed-Eligible Counselor
Michaela is a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, where she began her work in the mental health field as an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) technician supporting neurodivergent children and adolescents.
Michaela works with children, adolescents, and adults, utilizing a person-centered and play therapy-informed approach to counseling. She is passionate about helping individuals navigate life's challenges while fostering resilience, self-awareness, and personal growth. With children and adolescents ages 3–17, she incorporates developmentally appropriate play-based interventions to support emotional expression, coping skill development, and overall well-being. When working with adults, she tailors her approach to each individual's unique experiences, strengths, and goals.
In addition to her clinical training, Michaela has received training as an International Certified Gambling Counselor Level I (ICGC-I), allowing her to support individuals impacted by gambling-related concerns and behavioral addictions. She is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care that meets clients where they are in their healing journey.
Michaela believes that seeking support is a courageous act of self-care and that healing begins with feeling safe enough to be one's authentic self. She strives to create a welcoming, supportive, and judgment-free environment where clients feel heard, valued, and understood.
Through a trusting therapeutic relationship, Michaela works collaboratively with clients to identify strengths, overcome obstacles, and create meaningful change. Her goal is to empower individuals of all ages to build confidence, develop healthy coping strategies, and move toward a more fulfilling and balanced life.
